A strong odour emanating from your pipes might not be pleasant, but it won't cause you any harm. Sewerage produces a variety of inorganic gases due to the various anaerobic bacteria it contains, and while many of these gases are odouless, sewerage can take on a slight smell due to the presence of hydrogren sulphide.
